A scientific spin-off called dive.sph began, with the purpose of industrializing research on particle-based simulations.
BSH Hausgeräte GmbH started the research cooperation “simulation laundry care” with partners TU Berlin, Beuth Hochschule and HTW Berlin.
Pierre Sabrowski (physical engineering sciences) and Maik Störmer (industrial engineering) met as interns at the BSH Hausgeräte GmbH. Frustrated by long hours of time-consuming experimental work, they teamed up to research an in-house particle-based simulation tool. Its main purpose was the digitization of laborious physical experiments. Johannes Gutekunst (physical engineering sciences) joined the team to push the code to new heights. After years of intensive research, the team grew beyond its initial field of application and contributed to various publications on different industrial engineering questions. At that time, the addition of Felix Pause (aerospace engineering) completed the founding team and helped the software achieve industrial readiness. It was time to get serious. It was the birth of a company and a friendship that today carries the name dive solutions.
Together with the chair of scientific computing for systems biology of Prof. Dr. sc. techn. Ivo Sbalzarini new numerical schemes are developed to push meshfree simulation beyond its today’s capabilities. Furthermore, we are validating our gearbox simulation in collaboration with the chair of machine elements of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Berthold Schlecht.

In 2014 our first lines of SPH code were initiated by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Joachim Villwock and Pierre Sabrowski at the laboratory of CAE and simulation. From there it grew from a scientific feasibility study into an industry-ready meshfree software suite that is used in many different fields of application.

In cooperation with BSH Hausgeräte GmbH and Beuth Hochschule of Applied Sciences Prof. Dr.-Ing. Paul Uwe Thamsen opened the doors to expand the field of industrial SPH application. The experimental expertise of the chair of fluid system dynamics allowed our early stage SPH code to be confronted with and judged by real life engineering challenges.
